This was one of the 7 Wonders of The World. It is in Turkey near the famous ancient city 'Ephesus'. I took the picture last year I dont know why I haven't submitted it before, but now I am. I knoow the picture itself might not be artistic. That was not my intention - my intention was to document the place show the world how it looks now. You can only imagine what beautiful temple once stood there. If you want another version, I can submit one more a close up of the pillars. I personally like the idea of photojournalism for a change.
History:
This was once a beautiful temple, but it was burned down by a madman named Herostratos in the year 356 A.D. two hundred years after its construction. Then the temple, which was one of the 7 Wonders of the World, was rebuilt to the same measurements as the old temple. The temple was maintained up to the year 111 A.D., but it was torn down and pillaged by the Goths. Then most of the marble pillars were carried to Istanbul to be used in the construction of Hagia Sophia.
*update: I wanted to show something which have always been of my interests; the 7 wonders of the acient world. This was one of them and I'm glad I got a chance, to see it with my own eyes. Althought it might not be worthy as a wonder anymore.
yes it does - it was a beautiful place and the birds were beautiful too. You can only imagine how it must have looked when it was descriped as on of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.
yes indeed. That is why I choosed to include it. It's pretty nice to be able to say that you have experienced two of the seven wonders. It's not even all of them there are evidence of. Another of the seven wonders should be some hanging gardens in Iraq, but no evidence of them they are long gone. There should have been a tower in Alexandria (Egypt) that could reflect the light across the land, but I dont know if there is anything left of that either.
I know you're not into making money out of your art work, but this has got to get you a lot of money. I bet if you sold it to a travel guide or whatnot. It's so beautiful.
thank you it's very historical and I'm proud that I have seen one of the 7 wonders or what's left of it. I have actually seen two of the wonders the only one complete. I guess you know which one I'm talking about - pictures very soon
